"It all began as an idea to put the movement into music, a record produced and engineered, written and sung by women. So we were trying to think up a title for it. The album is sort of a private conciousness-raising session: songs to diaper babies by, songs to rivet or sculpt by, to drink or type or draw up the terms of your divorce by, to shelve books by, to make laws or run for office by, mow the lawn or fix the door by, songs to raise the heart when low, songs of sisterhood."
At the time I found this LP, I had never heard of Malvina Reynolds or any of the other ladies listed in the gatefold. Nowadays, that feels like a sin. Along with Janet Smith, Charley's Aunts, Nancy Raven, & Kit Miller, this album serves up a lot of in your face feminist folk songs just the way I like them.
